Training is a crucial stage in the development of skills and in the achievement of Private Security Detachment status (PSD).
When recruited for deployment in protection programmes in high-risk countries, no operator can guarantee the correct protection of a VIP or respond to a direct threat to property or persons without training. Training prepares our operators to face any situation. It is also important that the PSD, who is integrated into a new team, is able to communicate in a conventional way with all of the other team members. The training is specific to the type of mission and the territory in which the operators will work. The aim is to acquire specific techniques in difficult situations. The aspiring PSD operator must learn to reason and act under induced stress.
TOWER GROUP adapts to the needs of the client by proposing personalised services. Training can also be carried out locally.
TOWER GROUP instructors are former special forces members with very high quality profiles. They are responsible for the training of the aspiring PSD operators.
TOWER GROUP can provide:
• Training and technical assistance to Security Forces, Armed Forces and Police personnel;
• Expert consultations on the use of weapons and special materials.
TRAINING COURSES PROVIDED BY TOWER GROUP INCLUDE:
TOPOGRAPHY AND TACTICAL LAND NAVIGATION
In this phase the students will study daytime and nighttime orientation techniques by means of natural elements, the use of the most common topographic maps with different types of air and land coordinates, as well as the use of the most modern GPS systems.
INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP GROUND COMBAT TRAINING
During the ground combat course, the future operator will learn about cover, concealment, stealth and camouflage techniques, working in a team in hostile territories, clearing obstacles such as rivers or rocky areas, carrying out ambushes, attacking targets, and immediate action drills.
WEAPONS AND SHOOTING
During ground training, the student will learn to manage individual and departmental weapons, as well as acquiring a detailed knowledge of their function and use.
WORKING WITH HELICOPTERS
The teams must be able to communicate with any type of craft, be they fixed or rotary wing. This phase involves the use of and familiarisation with several communication systems, the setting up of improvised Landing Zones behind enemy lines, by day or by night, by means of infrared systems, and Fast Rope techniques.
COMBAT S.A.R. (SEARCH AND RESCUE)
The search and rescue phase involves infiltration behind enemy lines in order to rescue friendly units from enemy territory. All rescue and recovery techniques will also be taught in this phase.
IIn this phase the student will learn the techniques of day and night orientation through natural elements, the use of the most common topographic maps in the world with the different types of coordinates (aerial and terrestrial), the use of the most modern GPS systems.
INDIVIDUAL TRAINING AND EARTH COMBAT CORE
A team can be isolated behind enemy lines for long periods of time. As a result, there is a need to set up areas where it is possible to carry out supply drops in order to enhance the team’s operational capacity and thus prolong the mission. The precise aim of this phase is to train operators to carry out supply drops by means of visual communication methods with fixed-wing aircraft. In addition, operators will learn how to organise clandestine landing strips for light or medium aircraft as well as how to set up landing zones for rotary wing aircraft.
SURVIVAL EVASION RESISTANCE ESCAPE (SERE) COURSE
This course, of military origins, prepares an individual for the possible scenario of being isolated in hostile territory. The course concentrates on survival skills, evading capture, resisting psychological interrogations as well as any other non-conventional forms of interrogation. lt is directed at military personnel, law enforcement personnel, civilian workers, governing and non-governing organisation workers who work in countries considered “at risk”.
This course involves the preparation of means for special operations, reacting to enemy fire from a vehicle, vehicle navigation, and off-road driving techniques.
BASIC LIFE SUPPORT
The basic life support course aims to teach the self-medication/medication of firearm wounds, recognising and taking care of fractures, how to stop bleeding and how to treat and recognise heatstroke or hypothermia.
CLOSE VIP PROTECTION COURSE

RADIO AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS
During this phase, the operator will learn how to use radio systems with UHF, VHF, and HF frequency modulations, as well as receiving and sending data/information.
EXPLOSIVES AND SABOTAGE TECHNIQUES
This course deals with basic demolition techniques using TNT, advanced sabotage techniques through the use of plastic explosives with electric, mechanical and Nonel system detonators, as well as making IEDs and makeshift bombs, and breaching techniques.
RECOGNISING HOSTILE WEAPONS, UNIFORMS AND VEHICLES
During this course, operators will learn to recognise the weapons, vehicles and uniforms of the hostile forces with whom they may come into contact.
FREE FALL COURSE
This course permits operatives to acquire skvdiving techniques in order to infiltrate behind enemy lines with the aid of a military free fall parachute system.
BASIC SKIING AND COLD-WEATHER COMBAT COURSE
During this course, operators will specialise in cold-weather combat and survival, as well as basic and necessary skiing skills.
BASIC ROCK CLIMBING COURSE
This course is designed to allow operatives to acquire the necessary techniques in rock climbing with the aid of special materials, and free-climbing.
SCUBA DIVING COURSE
Operatives will be introduced to the use of underwater breathing apparatus, including both oxygen and air re-breathers, enabling them to carry out infiltrations at sea.
This course covers the use and maintenance of various boats and vessels, ranging from small canoes to rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIB) and the powerful Zodiac Commando self-inflating boats, powered by two outboard 175 HP engines, featuring radio apparatus, navigational radar and GPS, and capable of transporting an entire operational detachment of 12 people, in addition to the helmsman and the gunner, who is positioned at the bow.
FIGHTING IN BUILT UP AREAS / MOBILE OPERATIONS IN URBAN TERRAIN
The course includes tactical movement techniques, hostage rescue operations from aeroplanes, ships or trains, fighting in built up areas and Close Quarter Battle training (CBQ), making use of Killing House specifications. In addition, Close Combat will be featured, allowing operatives to learn personal defence, disarmament, control and restraint techniques, as well as transportation of hostages.
